Gray getting more offers
Jeff Tarpley
AggieYell.com DeSoto running back Cyrus Gray finished sixth in the regionals in the 100-meter dash in 2006. It was a disappointment for the speedy Gray considering that he has run multiple 4.3-second 40-yard dashes on the DeSoto campus.
As a result, Gray changed up his tactics to prepare for the 2007 track season in hopes of running a race in 10.4 seconds.
Interestingly, as one of the changes Gray didn't race at all in the 100 meters for most of this season, preferring to run the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 meter relays.
Gray changed up something else too, he did a lot of squats in the weight room during the spring and then laid off for two weeks prior to the Jesuit Relays a couple of weeks ago.
Gray's training paid off as he promptly won the 100 meters in 10.43 seconds in his only individual race of the spring.
Now, Gray has a new goal - to break 10.3 seconds in the 100 meters.
His first chance is this weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin against a field that will include some of the best runners in the state.
