A&M starts week No. 3 of spring drills
With their first scrimmage behind them the Texas A&M football team hit the practice fields again Monday to start the third week of spring drills. The team is getting back into football mode and it's starting to show as everyone is going all out on every play.
Redshirt freshman running back Cornell Tarrant had another impressive day and is quickly becoming one of the more impressive players during the spring. Tarrant showed that he can take a hit and keep going, and is a tough man to tackle. He also gives A&M a threat in the passing game. With the ball in his hands in the open field, Tarrant can be very scary.
But Tarrant is still definitely behind sophomore Mike Goodson who continues to literally outrun the competition. Goodson had another solid day running the ball, and he continues to show off his breakaway speed any time he is in the open field.
Speaking of someone who can make things happen in the open field, sophomore wide receiver Jamie McCoy had a solid day. He made a number of catches, including one from redshirt freshman quarterback Jerrod Johnson that went for a touchdown.
Johnson made a perfect throw that dipped in between an outstretched Chevar Bryson to McCoy. McCoy made the most of the play by beating one defensive back and taking off for the endzone.
McCoy was also good when getting the ball in the flats. On a wide receiver screen, he made three defenders miss and took off down the sideline for about a 15-yard gain.
