Offensive line is a work in progress
On the weekend college basketball was preparing for the denouement of a season that started in November 2006, Tulsa football players entered Skelly Stadium seriously dedicated to a football season that will end in December 2007. Friday's two hour practice was made necessary by Thursday's one hundred percent chance of rain coming true.
The most serious issue facing co-offensive coordinators Gus Malzahn and Herb Hand is the replacement of four starters on the offensive line. The new coaching staff got creative immediately with the switch of former defender Walter Boyd to the offensive line. Hand is upbeat about the senior from Shawnee, Oklahoma.
"He's doing good," said Hand. "The transition has been smooth for him so far. He's still got a lot of technique things to learn. His work ethic, his effort, his attention to what we're trying to accomplish has been really good. I think he's excited about the change. He is an outstanding athlete for a 320 pound kid, and he's light on his feet."
