Utes ready for NAU
This Week: The Utes are coming off their worst defeat since Ron Dayne carved them up in a 38-10 rout in the 1996 Copper Bowl. Luckily, Utah now gets to lick their wounds against the soft part of their schedule, with games against Northern Arizona and Utah State. First up is NAU, who is also 0-1, with their own 21-point loss to a PAC-10 team in the rear view mirror.
The Utes have feasted on Big Sky teams over the years, going 29-0 against the conference's current teams all time, but this will be the first meeting between these two schools. The last time the Utes faced a 1-AA opponent was in 1994, when they shellacked Idaho State 66-0 at Rice Stadium. Even though the Utes have had their way with the Big Sky, they did get handled by then 1-AA Idaho at home 28-17 in 1993.
The Utes emerged fairly healthy from UCLA, but will have at least a couple of players miss the NAU game. Wideout Brian Hernandez has a deep quad contusion and is definately out. He will be replaced by Bradon Godfrey, who saw very limited time in Pasadena. Hernandez's injury is not expected to keep him out too long.
