After weeks of positive praise by Coach Spurrier, freshman back-up quarterback Chris Smelley took a backseat to starter Blake Mitchell on Steve Spurrier's weekly call-in show Tuesday night.

Asked again whether Smelley would play Thursday night in the season opener against Mississippi State, Spurrier immediately switched the subject to his starting quarterback.
