CaneSport.com True freshman WR Sam Shields has scored a touchdown in 11-on-11 work in all but two fall practices.
Today he had a pair of touchdowns in the first scrimmage of the fall. Both were from QB Kirby Freeman.
On the first, Freeman took a three-step drop and quickly launched the ball 40 yards downfield. Shields put on a burst, ran past cornerback Ryan Hill and grabbed the ball for a score.
The second touchdown was a streak route that went for 60 yards. Hill was also in coverage on that play.
"In 7 on 7 (before the scrimmage) I dropped a couple of balls, which got my mind back right for the scrimmage," said Shields, who was the last player off the field a half hour after the scrimmage ended because he was working on route running and doing ball drills. "I caught two long ones. The first play I got my outside release, got over the top of him and Kirby threw it right on the dime. I got off, separated. The second one was the same thing."
