The defense spent much of the scrimmage working from the 3-4. The Trojans' first team defense went as followed:

Defensive Line - (End) Moore, (NG) Moala, (End) Barrett

Linebackers - (Outside) Cushing, (Inside) Rivers, (Inside) Maulauga, (Outside) Sartz

Defensive backs - (Corner) T. Thomas, (Safety) Pinkard, (Safety) Ellison, (Corner) C. Harris

The scrimmage started with sophomore David Buehler leading the kick off team on the field. Buehler, a recent junior college transfer from Santa Ana, had a total of three kicks - putting all near or through the endzone. Troy Van Blarcom took over the from there, bouncing a kick into the endzone.

Buehler, who came to USC in hopes of seeing some playing time at safety, has been a standout performer throughout camp. The possibility of him becoming the starting kicker by September continues to increase.

JD Booty hands the ball off to C.J Gable for nine yards

Center exchange muffed, offense retains possession

Booty hands off to Stafon Johnson for three yards

Booty throws a pass to Ryan Powdrell for no gain

Booty throws an incomplete pass to Steve Smith, pass deflected by Shareece Wright

Booty completes a pass over the middle to Patrick Turner for eight yards

On fourth down, Johnson breaks free for an 16-yard gain, swung out of bounce by Taylor Mays

Off of a great play fake, Booty finds tight end Anthony McCoy in the endzone for a touchdown

**Commentary**

Booty moved the team down field fairly efficiently. Outside the muffed snap and the incomplete pass to Smith, his passes were right on target. The offense was also sparked early by a great C.J. Gable run, and then bailed out by Johnson popping free around the right side of the line. The right side of the line could be credited for several good runs throughout the scrimmage.
