Freshman defensive back Javier Arenas was a late addition to the 2006 recruiting class, earning his only major scholarship offer from head coach Mike Shula.

"I knew a lot about Coach Shula," Arenas said. "Being from Tampa, I knew about his dad but who doesn't?"

Arenas knew the competition would be tough but the opportunity to wear the crimson and white was simply too good to pass on.

"It's the University of Alabama, who would pass that up?"
