Start of practice brings new bodies for Dawgs
Last season, Georgia's linebackers coach John Jancek found himself trying to mix and match a crew of linebackers in the face of seeming continuous injuries to Brandon Miller, Jarvis Jackson, Tony Taylor and Danny Verdun.
After a few months of voluntary workouts, the Bulldogs officially have some help on campus with four freshmen linebackers that will each be given a shot to contribute early in the season.
Darius Dewberry and Akeem Dent are most likely to step in with Akeem Hebron and Darryl Gamble also getting a shot to play. Both Dewberry and Dent are expected to play at the outsider linebacker positions with Dewberry considered a strong candidate for Sam linebacker behind Miller. Dent's likely destination is opposite Dewberry at the Will behind the starter, Taylor.
"I think bringing in those young guys will help us so much with us practicing and banging each other so much in practice," Verdun said. "It'll help us save our bodies in practice."
