Vols Get Big Name Unofficial Visitor in Martin
Recruiting is in a bit of a lull now that Tennessee and other college programs are setting their collective sights on fall camp. That lull picked up a bit of speed for the Vols this week though with a couple of unofficial visitors swinging through Knoxville. One of those, Cincinnati's Ben Martin, a Rivals.com four-star defensive end, was on campus Tuesday.
Martin (6-foot-5, 230 pounds, 4.5 40-yard dash), from Lasalle High School, is one of the premiere players at his position in this class and looks to have all the tools college coaches are looking for in a rush end. Tennessee is part of a crowded field trying to make Martin's yet-to-be-named list of five, and getting him on campus at this point in the process is certainly a step in the right direction.
The Vols weren't considered much of a player in this particular chase, but the fact that Martin took the trouble to contact Tennessee and set up a trip to Knoxville in July suggests that he's at least got more than a passing interest in the program. The chance to see Tennessee's program firsthand only seemed to solidify his interest.
"I really liked it there, I'm glad that I came down and looked at things," Martin said of his impression of Tennessee. "The campus was gorgeous, I liked it a lot.
"I got a chance to meet all the coaches, check out the facilities and see some of the academic support stuff. The facilities and stuff are up there with anything you'll see anywhere. They're getting it done at Tennessee, it was all good."
