Dawgs gearing up for 11-game haul
It's been 27 years since the Georgia Bulldogs have gone 11 games without an open date. That season, in 1979, Georgia struggled through a 6-5 campaign. The Bulldogs are hoping for better results this season when they'll go 11 consecutive weeks without an open date as a by-product of playing a 12-game schedule.
After beginning the season Sept. 2 against Western Kentucky, the Bulldogs won't have an off-week until their open date Nov. 18 preceding the Georgia Tech game. Georgia's off week will follow three consecutive games away from Sanford Stadium when they play Florida, Kentucky and Auburn.
"I truly believe that when the second and third game comes around, we're going to be full-straddle because that's how we need to be. We've got 11 straight games," said Georgia safety Kelin Johnson. "When you've got 11 straight games, you know you've got to bust your behind not only in the weight room, but the film room as well."
Florida has its off week scheduled after its eighth game, a week before facing the Bulldogs Oct. 28.
There is some relief on the way in 2007 when the Bulldogs' open date falls after their first seven games, the week before playing Florida.
