Emerging from the draft's daze
Next year the NFL draft won't be just another weekend for Notre Dame.
Instead of waiting six hours for the first Irish selection, probably a severe underestimation of the time elapsed before the Dallas Cowboys took tight end Anthony Fasano with the 53rd overall pick, it might take just six minutes before some franchise snatches up quarterback Brady Quinn.
By the time the draft's first day closes, five of Quinn's teammates could join him on NFL rosters.
Quinn and wide receiver Jeff Samardzija project as first-round picks, a combination the Irish have never pulled off.
In fact, Notre Dame hasn't produced a first round quarterback since Rick Mirer in 1993 or a first round receiver since Tim Brown in 1988.
Offensive tackle Ryan Harris, wide receiver Rhema McKnight, defensive end Victor Abiamiri and safety Tom Zbikowski could all get first day looks.
