P.J. Jones Using Bye Week to Heal "Messed Up" Frame
It's no secret that the Bulldogs are riddled with injuries in some key areas. Cornerback, which already was thin and young, has had trouble seeing consistent time from Taveze Calhoun and Jamerson Love due to nagging aches and pains. Offensive line was another area completely weakened by injuries across the board following the LSU game. On the defensive line, P.J. Jones has been fighting through his own injuries and is just happy to get a week of rest before State's next ball game in two weeks.
"My body is so messed up right now. I need a break, I think we all do," Jones said of the banged up Dawgs. "I got a little sore at the end and coach asked me could I go and I just had to take myself out. It's been a long season. I think bye weeks are important just to refresh your team. Football just drains you mentally and physically. A bye week is a time for us to just get refreshed and come together as a team getting ready for the second half of the season which is nothing but SEC ball."
Jones and company stepped out of SEC ball on Saturday and didn't have the results on the stat sheet or in their overall play that they wanted. They did, however get the win. The sloppy play was not to the liking of the coaches or the players, especially Jones who has taken a leadership role on the defense.
"Missing tackles, we've just got to execute on defense. Got to give credit to those guys, but most of that was on us. We could have tackled better and ran to the ball a little bit harder. You always want to improve. I know we're happy with the win, but we're not happy with the way that we played."
