Matthew Wells Accepting No Moral Victories
Mississippi State has seen its defense go through a lot of changes since last season. The Bulldog defenders have become much more aggressive this season under the new direction of Geoff Collins and his linebackers have seen their roles increase even more so. Despite 59 points surrendered to LSU on Saturday, there were still bright spots that excite Bulldog fans moving forward. Players like Matthew Wells have taken hold of leadership spots and are ready to take the defense to a whole new level.
"I think we communicated well and we could have played harder, but we played with good effort," Wells said of the defensive performance against LSU. "We never want to feel like that again. We obviously want to correct our mistakes and that was a key for us on Saturday, to fill our gaps which we didn't do. We've just got to go to practice and correct our mistakes."
Collins preached for two weeks prior to the game just how challenging it was to prepare for the balanced attack that LSU represented. Being able to mix in the pass and run efficiently, made the ball game tough to defend for Wells and his troops.
