Robert Johnson Creating Major Matchup Difficulties
A lot has been said in the preseason and the first few games of the season about MSU's wide receivers. Replacing the top three targets from a year ago was a big issue but, so far, the new set of pass catchers have exceeded expectations. Robert Johnson has been one of the more pleasant surprises for the Bulldogs even though he was the top returning starter from a year ago with 17 catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns.
Johnson has started off the season nicely already catching 10 passes for 158 yards in the first four games of the season. One part of his game that he's been consistent on the most is being physical and a tough target for defenses to account for. Adding yards after the catch has been something he and the rest of his receivers have put a lot of time in.
"That's what I really tried to focus on this season is being that physical receiver at the wide out position," Johnson said. "I kind of bulked up in the weight room and lost a little weight. I'm just trying to run over whoever stands in my way."
