Thomas selected No. 1 at DT: What it means
EAST LANSING - Lawrence Thomas represented one of the biggest and most positive surprises of the day when he was the first defensive tackle selected during Tuesday's annual Green-White Draft.
Max Bullough's Green team opened up defensive tackle selections in the seventh round, and drafted Thomas ahead of junior James Kittredge and a host of other young prospects.
Senior defensive tackles Tyler Hoover and Micajah Reynolds were not eligible to be drafted. As seniors, they were designated on opposite teams. Hoover's team selected Thomas.
"LT and Kitt, either one of those guys could have been picked," Bullough said. "Kittredge has had a phenomenal spring just as much as LT has, but the guys that were next to me were whispering, 'LT', so I picked him. He's a guy that when he goes in there, he might make some mistakes here and there, which is inevitable because he has changed positions, but he is a guy you notice. He's a guy that flashes and makes plays and gets off the ball and that's why we took him."
