State starts strong against Samford

STARKVILLE, Miss., - Mississippi State hadn't forgotten how their 2012 season ended.

The Bulldogs were eliminated from the Tallahassee Regional last season with two losses to Samford. Saturday however No. 5 MSU was able to exact a little revenge on Samford with an 8-2 in the Diamond Classic at Dudy Noble Field.

"We came out here today and just wanted to put it on them," said MSU sophomore pitcher Ross Mitchell. "They really disappointed us last year and we wanted to do our best against them. We wanted to attack them early and we were able to do that."

MSU (7-0) scored six runs in their first two at bats and held Samford hitless until the fifth inning.

State however collected 13 knocks on the afternoon led by shortstop Adam Frazier, who went 3-for-4 with a triple.
