Increased role, responsibility for Smith
For the past two seasons, Preston Smith has been known as one of Mississippi State's up and coming young defensive end.
Now preparing to enter his junior season, Smith is ready to not only take on a starting role for the Bulldogs but also leadership responsibilities as well under new defensive line coach David Turner.
"My role has increased as a pass rusher," Smith said. "I've got to step up as one of the leaders on the defensive line. I plan on increasing my role as a starter next year. I want to work hard and earn a starting role next year."
The Stone Mountain, Ga., native has played in 22 games at MSU over the past two years after having his redshirt waived four games into his freshman season. During that span Smith recorded 42 tackles, 5.5 for loss, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and a pass deflection.
