Bulldogs add another 2016 commitment

It was only a few weeks ago when Mississippi State made national headlines by accepting the commitment of 2016 running back Robert Washington.

Now the Bulldogs are back in the spotlight by picking up Washington's freshman teammate at Southlake (N.C.) Christian Academy Conner O'Donnell.

The 2016 wide receiver was offered over the phone Tuesday night by MSU assistant coach Tim Brewster and after talking things over with his family, called Brewster back to accept the scholarship.

"(Brewster) was in Florida recruiting and was gracious enough to give me 20 minutes on the phone," said Geoff O'Donnell, Conner's father and head coach at Southlake Christian. "He asked to talk to Conner and said 'I loved your film and think you're going to be a great player and wanted to offer you a full scholarship. It's a multi-year commitment and we ask you not to look at anybody else. If you marry us, that's it'. I got back on the phone with him and asked him some very detailed questions about what it meant. (Conner and I) talked for a couple of hours and called him back."

The six-foot, 160-pounder was already being recruited by Duke, Harvard, Ohio, Ole Miss and Wake Forest. However it was not until Washington committed in November that a mutual interest came from the Bulldogs and the O'Donnell family.

"When Robert Washington committed a month ago, Conner immediately said that we needed to look at Mississippi State," Geoff O'Donnell said. "They had made that now famous pact from Team USA that they were going to play together. We did some research and got on the phone with Coach Brewster when Robert committed.
