First Four Downs: What to watch for
The first four downs
Oklahoma State kicks off their season tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. against Savannah State. Here are four "downs" to watch for and think about as you take in your first Cowboy game of the season.
First down: Quarterback matchup
Both teams feature first-year starters. For Oklahoma State, it's true freshman Wes Lunt, who we've all heard nothing but great things about. For Savannah State, it's Antonio Bostick. Bostick saw action in 2011, but it didn't go well. He finished the year with a 39% completion rate with three touchdowns and eight interceptions. With both being so inexperienced, the start of the game will be extremely valuable in deciding which will have a good day, and which will have a bad. Do I think it has a chance to impact the game's outcome? No, but definitely something to pay attention to.
Third down: OSU's defensive backs vs. Savannah State's WR's
Savannah State returns both Dylan Cook and Brian Lackey, who were their top two receivers in 2011. That sounds intimidating, but their combined numbers were 43 receptions for 634 yards and 4 TD's. Their combined stats would have made them the fourth overall receiver on Oklahoma State's roster last season. Oklahoma State returns cornerbacks Brodrick Brown and Justin Gilbert, as well as safety Daytawion Lowe. Does the backfield nicknamed "No Fly Zone" start hot?
