Illini in top six for defensive end
"Defensive end" will likely be listed under Ramar Dennis' name in the Olympia High School (Orlando, Fla.) program this upcoming season, but the 6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect is receiving the bulk of his attention as a linebacker.
After playing on the line as a junior, Dennis took reps at linebacker during spring practice, showing college coaches that he can be a sideline-to-sideline player at the next level.
It didn't take long for the offers to start rolling in. Dennis, who racked up 106 tackles and eight sacks at Olympia last season, has a current top six of Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, Illinois, Northern Illinois, South Alabama and Syracuse.
The steady stream of interest after exploring a new position has caught Dennis off guard.
"I'm actually pretty surprised," Dennis said of his scholarship offers. "In this area (Florida) we have so much talent, so I think I've been a little overshadowed.
