Bulldogs complete sweep in 14 innings
STARKVILLE, Miss., - It may have taken 14 innings but when the dust settled at the plate Matthew Britton had slid safely after a wild pitch to give Mississippi State a 3-2 win and their first SEC sweep of the season.
Maybe the Bulldogs got lucky.
After all the players put on their green St. Patrick's Day hats before their final at bat and earned their third straight win on Super Bulldog Weekend to get them right back in the hunt for Hoover.
"This is huge especially coming off getting swept last weekend," said MSU shortstop Adam Frazier. "We get a sweep this week and are right back in it. We've just got to keep it going and keep the team energy and I feel like we have come together as a team more this week than we have all season."
MSU collected eight hits on the chilly afternoon in front of 9,233 fans at Dudy Noble Field. Britton paved the way for the Diamond Dogs going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.
"What I've been working on lately was staying in the middle," Britton said. "That's all I've been working on and it worked today."
Centerfielder C.T. Bradford went 2-for-4 at the plate helping State improve to 24-16 overall and 8-10 in conference play.
