The Stansbury era ends at State
STARKVILLE, Miss., - The most successful era of men's basketball at Mississippi State to date came to a close Thursday afternoon.
Rick Stansbury, who has spent the past 22-years in the Bulldogs program and the last 14 as its head coach, announced his retirement effective immediately.
"I thought long and hard about this and it's time in my life to start a new chapter," Stansbury said. "It's time to step away from coaching and I'm ready for it."
The veteran head coach cited his family which includes three sons under the age of 13 as part of his decision to leave at this time. He stated he has only seen one of his sons soccer games in the last three years and has only been able to take them fishing once in that span living on Browning Creek in Starkville.
"I'm at a point now where I'm ready to become a better father and a better husband," Stansbury said.
