Mississippi State's first test without four starters begins this afternoon hosting Mercer for a three-game weekend series starting with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
The Bulldogs will be without the services of outfielders C.T. Bradford and Brent Brownlee, third baseman Daryl Norris and Friday starting pitcher Ben Bracewell as they try to continue a six-game winning streak.
Bradford and Norris went out in Wednesday's 10-6 win over Penn State while Brownlee underwent surgery on his knee Thursday and will miss six weeks. Bradford dislocated his shoulder and is expected out 1-2 weeks while Norris popped his knee cap out of place and will miss 4-6 weeks.
Today will mark the first time MSU and Mercer have met on the diamond in Starkville since 1914. The two teams have met 13 times over the years splitting down the middle 6-6-1. They have not played since 2000 when the Diamond Dogs claimed a 6-4 victory in the Coca-Cola Classic in Mobile, Ala.
