Spartans offer Wisconsin DE
Michigan State is being very aggressive when it comes to recruiting the state of Wisconsin and this weekend they offered another standout from there, defensive end Alec James of Brookfield East High School. SpartanMag.com spoke with James and got some details on his recruitment and junior day visit.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound James is one of the top players in the Badgers State for the class of 2013. Led by primary recruiter Brad Salem, the Spartans are right in the mix of his recruitment. In addition to Michigan State, James also holds scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa State and Western Michigan. James talked about his weekend trip to East Lansing.
“Yes, Michigan State offered me," James said. "I was very happy about getting it. I really liked Michigan State a lot. The coaches seemed like real good-hearted people and everyone that was there seemed like they really love what they do whether they are players or coaches.”
James is a very athletic prospect and the Spartans envision him as someone who can make plays off the edge at the next level. As a junior James had a strong season for Brookfield East High School racking up 86 total tackles including 21 TFL’s and 13 sacks. We asked James where the Spartans rank now that he has a scholarship from them.
“I like them a lot it is a nice school with a good staff, they are up there,” he said. “Right now though, I am not favoring any one school.”
The visit to East Lansing capped a busy last couple of weeks for James. In addition to Michigan State, he has also taken visits to Wisconsin, Iowa State and Iowa. We asked him about future junior day visits.
“No, I do not have any other visits lined up right now because I am getting ready to start track. I hope to visit some more schools this spring.”
In track, James participates in the 4x100, 4x200, 100m, 200m and shot put events. That is an unusual combination, but shows just how athletic James is.
As for other schools James would like to check out, Minnesota and Purdue are two schools that could be on the unofficial visit list.
SpartanMag.com will continue to follow the recruitment of James in the coming months. You can be sure the Michigan State staff will extend an invitation to the Green and White game so James can once again be on campus and build additional rapport with the players and coaches.
