Illinois Trio Enjoys Xavier Visit
Recruiting is many, many parts hard work and a few parts luck. The latter was on Xavier's side on Saturday night as the game that they happened to pick for three 2014 recruits from Illinois to visit turned out to be a game that will go down as one of the Cintas Center's more memorable ones.
Darreon Reddick, Darius Austin, and C.J. Rivers all made the 365 mile trip to Xavier for the Dayton game with their Southwest Illinois Jets AAU coach Dana Morgan and came away impressed not only with the atmosphere, but also the style of play and the coaching staff.
All three sophomore prospects are in different stages of their recruitment, and Xavier has yet to offer as they as still evaluating the trio. With Xavier earning an emotional win at home with so much on the line the visit became a special one for the Illinois natives, who are being recruited by assistant coach Kareem Richardson.
Austin, a 6'6 small forward, is the headliner of the group so far. He reports offers from Saint Louis and DePaul as well as interest from schools including Xavier, Tennessee, Michigan, and Missouri. Austin told us that he is a, "Slasher that likes to get teammates involved and likes to get the foul line."
The point guard of the group, the 6'2 Rivers, has yet to receive his first offer but is getting strong interest from Xavier, Tennessee, Saint Louis, Missouri, and Illinois. "I'm a true point guard," Rivers said, "I'm active on defense and I can score when I need to."
The final member of the group, Reddick, is a 6'3 shooting guard. Reddick has an offer from DePaul already and is hearing from Xavier, Tennessee, Missouri, and Michigan the most. Reddick claims that slashing and his size are the strongest parts of his game at this point.
This group is a close knit one as well as all three players play together on the AAU scene, while Austin and Rivers are also high school teammates. As the AAU season takes them all over the Midwest the three expressed interest in returning for Xavier for another visit as their recruitment continues to expand.
