Spartans beat OSU, Wisconsin for All-American DB
Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Spartans continued to close strong on the recruiting trail with the addition of 4-star All-American safety Demetrious Cox of Jeanette High School in Pennsylvania. Cox selected the Spartans over Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin.
Cox is a player the Michigan State staff made a top priority early on in the process. Cox took multiple visit to Michigan State this this past year, including an official recruiting visit the weekend of December 16th. The 6-foot-1, 192-pound prospect also took visits to Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin.
With the graduation of All-Big Ten performer Trenton Robinson, the Spartans are looking to re-load at the safety spot. Cox, who is rated the #10 player in Pennsylvania and the #13 safety in the nation, will have a chance to make an early impact.
Cox told Pittsburgh station KDKA the following:
The addition of Cox along with wide receiver Monty Madaris of Ohio gives Mark Dantonio commitments from two of the top players on the Spartan recruiting board. The Michigan State staff is looking to add possibly one or two more players to the class on signing day or possibly this coming weekend.
SpartanMag.com will have more on Cox's commitment to Michigan State in the near future. The class of 2012 has a chance to be the best the Mark Dantonio has signed in his tenure at Michigan State. It certainly should allow the Spartans to continue to compete for the Big Ten Championships in years to come.
