Catching up with Conyers
Robert Conyers is in no rush to make a decision.
The Miami (Fla.) Braddock offensive tackle has visits scheduled for Duke (Dec. 9) and Illinois (Dec. 16), and is thinking about making another trip to Wake Forest.
"USF, Duke, Illinois and FIU those are the top four kind of," Conyers said. "I'm still kind of deciding on Michigan State and Vanderbilt and Wake."
Illinois relieved head coach Ron Zook of his duties Sunday afternoon after the Fighting Illini lost six straight games. This will likely have a significant impact in Conyers' decision. Conyers said he wanted to figure out where Illinois is at in its coaching situation.
Zook's firing provides some clarity for Conyers, but if he is serious about Illinois he will be trying to figure out who the Fighting Illini are looking to hire as their next head coach if he follows through on his plans to visit Champaign.
In his upcoming visits Conyers (Rated as a three-star recruit, the No. 50 offensive guard nationally and the No. 78 prospect in Florida by Rivals.com) wants to see what kind of feeling he gets from the players, where the programs are heading and how he would be able to contribute.
"I want to see some of the other schools, and meet some of the other players of the schools," Conyers said.
He visited Duke and Wake Forest last summer.
Steed Lobotzke and Lonnie Galloway are recruiting him for the Demon Deacons.
Conyers (6-foot-5 and 277 pounds) said Lobotzke and Galloway have told him a spot is open for him if he chooses the Deacs.
The Miami product traveled to South Florida earlier this fall. Conyers said he likes USF's coaching staff, Florida International's too.
The Bulls and Panthers are in his backyard, which makes them appealing, but Conyers said not enough to give them a significant edge over his other suitors.
