Winning while improving
Mississippi State has come close on several occasions this year but entered last weekend against Kentucky winless in conference play.
But Dan Mullen's Bulldogs were able to overcome three turnovers en route to a 28-16 victory in Lexington to earn that elusive league win.
"It's great to get a win especially on the road in the SEC," Mullen said. "It's tough to get road wins. Even though there are a lot of things we can improve on in that game obviously with the turnovers and third down defense, our guys played well and we made plays when we needed to make plays. We generally executed well. There are some things we could've done better and still have to improve on to play consistent for an entire game."
State has areas to improve on both sides of the ball. The Bulldogs fumbled twice and tossed up one interception in the first half on offense and were just 9-of-19 on third down stops defensively.
But Mississippi State was able to overcome those deficiencies to improve to 4-4 on the year.
