2013 QB has SU as a favorite
The quarterback position is always one of the most highlighted positions when it comes to recruiting and even though the Orange still have offers out for 2012 they are looking ahead to 2013. One prospect they are looking at right now is Caleb Scepaniak from Binghamton (N.Y.) Seton Catholic Central who already thinks very highly of the Orange.
"Syracuse is one of my top schools right now, one of my favorites."
The Orange have not talked about offering the 6-foot-5, 225 pound gunslinger, but he hopes they start soon. Even though Syracuse has not offered Scepaniak he does have four early offers from Buffalo, Cornell, Fordham, and Wagner.
Despite not having an offer from the Orange he did make a trip up to Syracuse recently.
"I went up to see the game when they played Toledo. It was a lot of fun and I had a chance to speak with the coaches before the game."
What did the quarterback prospect talk with the Orange coaches about?
"We just talked about how my season was going and we talked about the quarterbacks at Syracuse."
Sometimes they highlight of a trip for a recruit is talking to the coaches, but this time Scepaniak has another favorite part.
"My favorite part was probably going down on the field and talking to some players."
The one player he had a chance to talk with had lot of time to talk since he was not playing.
"Chandler Jones was hurt so I got to talk to him. He is from my area, we talked about how all the schools are doing in my area."
An offer might not be in hand yet, but the Orange have assigned him a recruiter, so there is a mutual interest at this point.
"Ii have a good relationship with Coach [Nathaniel] Hackett. We talk every once in a while."
When Scepaniak thinks about the Orange he thinks about one thing and that is the ability to help them at quarterback.
"When I think of Syracuse I think of an offense that would fit me well. I am a pro-style quarterback and they run a pro-style offense."
Even though he does have four offers none of those schools have jumped up into his favorites. Out of his five favorites there are no offers, but a few have started to talk about offering.
"My favorite schools are Syracuse, Penn State, Boston College, Connecticut, and Iowa," Scepaniak said. Penn State and Boston College have talked about offering."
If the offers start coming in and everything goes the way the Empire State prospects hopes than he will make a decision sometime in the spring.
