Warfield impressed by atmosphere

One of the top performers at Ohio State's two-day underclassmen camp back in June was Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward defensive back Solomon Warfield. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound safety caught the eyes of the coaching staff during the two-day camp and has been on the radar ever since. On Saturday afternoon, Warfield made the trip down from the Cleveland area to watch Ohio State take on Michigan State in the Big Ten opener.
"It was a good game," said Warfield. "The offensive line (for Ohio State) didn't really block very well but it was a good game, Ohio State could have done better though."
Warfield arrived a little late to the game so he wasn't able to meet with any members of the coaching staff. He did, however, come away impressed by the atmosphere inside Ohio Stadium.
"I loved (the atmosphere)," he said. "Ohio State fans are faithful and they fill the stadium every weekend, regardless. It was sweet being there."
Despite the loss, Ohio State is still right near the top of Warfield's list, along with a handful of other top programs.
"Ohio State is definitely at the top of my list," he said. "Ohio State, Wisconsin, I like Nebraska too, Notre Dame, and West Virginia. West Virginia, there whole atmosphere is nice down there."
Warfield's schedule keeps him busy and with St. Edward playing a lot of Saturday games, it will be tough for him to get out on more unofficial visits this fall but he's hoping to try and do just that at some point.
"I've got a few game invites," he said. "Duke, Syracuse, Wisconsin (have all sent invites) but I don't really have much time during the season to make it to any of the games. Hopefully I can get down to those places to see a game."
On the field, Warfield is having an outstanding junior season so far, making big plays from his free safety spot. For a player that is a first-year varsity starter, things are really beginning to come together.
"The game is slowing down a lot more than when I first got out there," he said. "Everything is all coming together and it's working out."
Warfield and St. Ed's are coming off a state championship a season ago and will face a huge challenge this weekend as they face Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep at a neutral site at Fordham University in The Bronx. Don Bosco Prep is the No. 4 ranked team in the RivalsHigh100 poll and is ranked number one in the nation in various other polls.
"I can't wait," he said. "They're number one so it will be different. We've always been the top dogs in Ohio or however you want to put it but right now we're the underdogs so it's going to be a good game."
