Turning point: Vanderbilt's Larry Smith had just dashed for a 19-yard score on the previous VU possession and Ole Miss responded by moving the ball to its 42 on a second-and-10 play. Commodore defensive end Walker May then belted Ole Miss quarterback Zach Stoudt from behind as he was releasing a throw, causing it not to have the intended velocity.

VU's Trey Wilson saw it quickly and made the easy interception. With other Commodore defenders led (chieflySean Richardson) anticipating what was happening, Wilson took off behind a convoy of blockers and raced 52 yards untouched for a score, putting Vandy up 14-0.
