Will OSU make the cut for Cox?

One of the most highly ranked prospects left on Ohio State's board is Jeanette (Pa.) safety Demetrious Cox. The 6-foot-1, 192-pounder is rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and the No. 14 safety in the nation. Cox has seen his offer list expand greatly over the summer and now holds over 20 offers from some of the nation's top programs. After taking numerous visits over the spring and summer, Cox is getting ready to narrow his list down.
"On Saturday I'm going to announce my final ten or eight," said Cox. "The schools don't all really have one thing in common but they all have something that stands out to me."
As Cox narrows his list and gets closer to a decision, there are a few criteria that he's looking at closely.
"I'm looking for a place that has a great family feel to it," he said. "I'm also looking for a place with great academics and that has the opportunity for me to compete."
One school that is hoping to make the cut is Ohio State. The Buckeyes have landed two players out of Jeanette the last few years in Terrelle Pryor and Jordan Hall. Cox says he has been keeping in touch with head coach Luke Fickell through e-mail.
"It's been pretty good," Cox said, of his contact level with Ohio State. "I haven't called coach Fickell but I've emailed him. Other than that, I've just been watching and seeing what everyone else is seeing."
So will Ohio State be one of his finalists?
"Yeah, there's a possibility that they will make it," he said.
One thing that could potentially affect Ohio State's chances is Friday's hearing with the NCAA. Ironically, Cox seems more concerned for his former teammate than he does about how it would effect his recruiting status.
"Really I just wish the best for the University," he said. "I watch it pretty closely but other than that, I hope that coach Fickell and Jordan (Hall) and everything will be ok and that this will all be history."
Once Cox narrows things down, it shouldn't be too much longer before a decision is reached.
"I'm trying to make my decision during the season," he said. "I'm going to take a couple (official visits) and if I need to take all five to find the place that I really like then I'll take all five but I think I'll just need to take a couple to see what I like and then decide from there."
