Brown still high on Tide
Beniquez Brown's interest in Alabama remained high after he returned from UA's camp in July.
The three-star athlete from Florence, Ala., said that the camp went well and gave him an opportunity to speak with the Crimson Tide coaching staff.
"I went down there just to make sure everything was cool," Brown said. "I had a great time with the coaches. I enjoyed the environment."
The Alabama coaches envision the versatile athlete as either a running back or a safety. Brown said that he is unsure what position he would rather play, but said that whichever he chooses, he will be confident at the next level.
He also believes that Alabama would let him decide which position he would like to play at if he decided to commit.
"I really don't know," Brown said. "I don't know if I like offense or defense. I'm just going to take my time with it and make sure I find the best fit possible."
If the 6-foot-2, 210-pound prospect were to elect to play running back at UA, he would have to transition from the spread offense to a pro-style offense where he would run more out of the I-formation.
Brown said that he has past experience with a pro-style offense, and that the move would not be that difficult of a switch for him.
"I run the spread in high school and with Alabama running out of the I-formation, it is kind of different," Brown said. I could adapt to that situation if I went to Alabama. Growing up, the teams that I played for ran out of the I, it was only last year that was my first year running out of the spread."
At UA's camp, Brown worked exclusively at safety and said he spent a lot of time focusing on technique to improve his play for the upcoming season.
"It was good going as a safety," Brown said. "I took my time and learned things that I can take back home and work on. I had a good time. I got to compete on some one-on-ones and things like that. I was just focusing on getting better and competing."
Brown has Alabama, Florida and Mississippi State in his list of top schools. The standout athlete said that he would like to get the recruiting process over before the start of his senior year.
However, if he is unable to come up with a decision before the season, Brown said that he would probably announce on National Signing Day, but either way, he does not want the recruiting process to affect his senior season.
"I was thinking that I want to go ahead and get it out of the way," Brown said. "But if I do not think I'm ready to make my decision then I will probably just wait it out."
