Preseason position breakdown; running backs
Louisiana Tech has produced more running backs in recent memory than any other position with the likes of Ryan Moats and Daniel Porter both getting their shot in the National Football League. Barring injury, Tech will do it again after this season in senior Lennon Creer but what other backs will Tech have behind Creer?
That's a quick answer; Ray Holley , Tyrone Duplessis and a sprinkling of Lyle Fitte.
Creer was a horse in 2010 for Tech amassing 1181 with 212 carries for an average of 5.6 yard per carry and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 25 balls for 181 yards. In 5 of the Tech's final 7 games in 2010 Creer rushed for over 100 yards. The two games Creer received the most carries seemed to be the games he shined in most. October 26th against Boise State he rushed 35 times for 149 yards and an average of over 4 yards a carry on his way to 2 touchdowns. Then on November 27th he rushed 30 times for 252 yards and averaged of over 8 yards per carry with 3 touchdowns. Not to mention October 16th when he rushed 23 times for 179 yards again with 2 touchdowns.
Creer is a balanced running back with good speed and balance but at the same time has the ability to run with power.
Behind Creer will be fellow senior Ray Holley. Holley rushed the ball 49 times for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns last season and also had 11 receptions for 98 yards. Holley is a good balanced running back who runs with great balance, low pad level and has deceiving speed.
Following Holley will be redshirt sophomore Tyrone Duplessis. Duplessis missed 2010 with an injury. During his freshman year when he got more than 10 carries he proved he could be productive. Against Hawaii on September 30, 2009 he rushed 14 times for 75 yard and on November 14th against LSU rushed 17 times for 65 yards.
Lyle Fitte will see some action at running back this season in order to get him in space. When Fitte is in space anything can happen due to his quickness.
Louisiana Tech is super thin at running back this season and any injury would severely hamper their season. If everyone stays healthy though the four running backs in the backfield are talented enough to make a huge impact for the Bulldogs in 2011.
