Kelly reacts to in state offer
Chad Kelly from Buffalo (N.Y.) St. Joseph's passed for 2,159 yards with 24 touchdowns and only eight interceptions a season ago. He also chipped in just over 1,000 yards on the ground. It was those numbers and the past play of the prospect that the Syracuse Orange took note of.
"Syracuse offered about a week and half a go maybe two weeks ago," Kelly said. "I actually took an unofficial visit up there last season again Maine and we have been talking ever since then. It was sweet to get the offer because it is not to far from here. When I made my visit there the first time I thought it was a pretty sweet school. I was very excited to get the offer."
At the start of the 2012 recruiting process Orange running backs Coach Tyrone Wheatley seems to be leading the surge for prospects and in this case he is going after Kelly, but he is getting some help from Nathaniel Hackett.
"Coach Tyrone Wheatley is recruiting me we talk a few times a week. I also talk with Nathaniel Hackett as well and he is good friends with my uncle. We kind of already knew each other because they know each other."
Speaking of his uncle NFL Hall of Famer Jim Kelly has also been helping his nephew out as his nephew progresses at the position the elder Kelly stared at.
"He means a lot and I look up to him as much as I can. If there is any inside information I can get from him like reading defenses or something that is huge," Kelly stated. "He helps me out the most by just telling me how other quarterbacks are playing when we watch games together."
When you look at Kelly you can tell he is a duel-threat quarterback and it is his ability to run around that he feels is the best part of his game."
"I think my duel-threat ability I can escape the pocket and still make plays down field. That is probably the best thing I do."
A decision from Kelly will not come soon, but it will be made sooner rather than later.
"I would like to make a decision before the season starts, hopefully in the middle of the summer or right before the season starts."
