Diaz departing does not affect McKinney
When Mississippi State defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Manny Diaz left last week to take the same position at Texas it rocked the boat with several Bulldog defensive commitments.
But Tunica, Miss., three-star prospect Benardrick McKinney was not among them. While the 6-foot-4, 214-pounder hated to see Diaz go it does not affect his decision to be in Starkville next season.
"That doesn't affect me," McKinney said. "I just want to go to State and play football period. It doesn't affect me at all."
In fact, McKinney offered up his wish list of qualities he'd like to see in whoever the Bulldogs hire to replace Diaz.
"I just want a fun coach that loves to have fun and still gets the job done," McKinney said. "I want somebody that can have fun but still teaches me what I need to learn and know."
MSU has been the only program to offer the Rosa Fort High School standout and the relationship between the two has been going smoothly since he received his scholarship and committed back in September.
