Tim Cole keeps A&M at the top
The Brenham Cubs are off to a fast start in 2010, tearing off a 3-0 record and moving to the top of the 4-A rankings. One of the major reasons for the hot start is junior linebacker Timothy Cole, who has emerged as a team leader.
"Last week was just another obstacle we had to go through to get to our ultimate goal," he said of Brenham's Sept. 10 win over Houston Lamar, in which he had eight tackles and a sack. "They played real well, and you have to tip your hat to them, but we fought hard for the win."
Along with a number of his teammates, Cole attended Texas A&M's Sept. 11 game against Louisiana Tech and enjoyed the experience.
"It was good; they made some mistakes, but they got the win," he said. "The stadium was packed, and that was cool."
Cole also had a chance to visit with some of the players and members of the coaching staff.
"I got to talk to Jerrod (Johnson) and Jeff (Fuller) and all the coaches," he said. "It was real cool; nothing special, just giving me some advice about working hard and to continue to enjoy high school football."
The Aggies were one of the first schools to show an interest in Cole, but other schools have started calling after Brenham's fast start.
"I've been hearing from a lot of them now," he said. "More than I can count."
In spite of the new suitors, Cole said he still thinks highly of A&M.
"They're at the top," he said. "I feel good with the coaches and it's close to home."
Still, he's not in any rush to commit.
"Not yet," he said. "I'm just worried about Brenham High School right now."
