Grant catches up with LT in East Lansing
Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary cornerback Doran Grant spent this past weekend in the state of Michigan checking out the Wolverines and Spartans. He first traveled to Ann Arbor Friday and then headed to East Lansing for a Friday night hotel stay and then a visit with the Spartans Saturday morning.
SpartanMag.com caught up with Grant (5-10, 171) Sunday evening and he talked about his stops at Michigan and Michigan State.
"We got there (to U-M) and met up with Coach (Chris) Singletary in Schembechler Hall and took a tour around the facilities, saw the new indoor facility," said Grant, who is on the Rivals250 to Watch list. "I watched spring practice for a little bit, came in and watched the scrimmage. They didn't have pads on, but it was a full, 11-on-11 scrimmage without pads. Then we went to the office after practice and talked to Coach (Rich) Rodriguez.
"(Rodriguez) basically told me how bad they want me and how they want to sign me, because they're only going to sign certain guys in the class, and they want my signature."
Grant said he was most impressed with the atmosphere around the U-M program.
"You could tell the teammates get along very well," he said. "It's like a family there, a family atmosphere."
When Grant finally reached East Lansing he caught up with some old faces and future members of the program.
"That was great. I got to hang with Coach (Pat) Narduzzi, Coach (Harlon) Barnett and we were watching the practice. Then I went down on the field and met up with (MSU linebacker verbal commitment) Lawrence Thomas, you know LT, and we chatted a little bit," Grant said. "We talked about different stuff and talked about State and all the major games coming up next fall. And I talked to Coach (Mark) Dantonio and he basically told me how they want me and they want to sign me, too. Then they took me around the facilities. I knew everything there I've been there so many times."
