A&M brings loads of experience into tournament
Everyone has already heard how Texas A&M joins Texas and Pittsburgh as the only three teams in the NCAA tournament field that have won at least one game in the past four seasons. But it attests to something that is crucial to advancing in the Big Dance - experience.
Teams, coaches and players who have routinely played in college basketball's biggest event don't get caught up in all the extras that are talked about this time of year - brackets, media and whatever else is on the menu. A&M fits that mold with only the freshmen playing in their first NCAA tournament.
"It helps a lot. I've been to four straight NCAA tournaments," said A&M senior guard Donald Sloan. "My freshmen year we had great leaders out there with you. It was the same thing my sophomore year. It was pretty much that way my junior year, but we had more to do with it than in previous years. And now it's like I'm the leader or we're the leader - me, Bryan, B.J., Nate and guys who have played in as many tournaments as we've been to."
