Talented redshirts are waiting in the wings
One of the story lines to watch for the Louisville football program over the next few months will be the development of a group of players who redshirted this season to save a year of eligibility. The Cardinals redshirted a group of more than ten players, mostly freshman, and at least one player who will return to start in the defensive secondary.
Terrence Simien, a 6-3 safety, was injured in the second game of the season with a lacerated kidney. He never returned and is expected to be granted an additional year of eligibility, meaning he'll return next season with two seasons of eligibility remaining. A junior college transfer, Simien beat out several returning starters coming into the season and recorded ten tackles and one interception in his short season.
