Mullen excited about first Egg Bowl game
Throughout his playing and coaching career [DB]Dan Mullen[/DB] has had the opportunity to be involved in many rivalries.
But Saturday the first year Mississippi State head coach will get his first taste of the Egg Bowl when his Bulldog square off against instate rival Ole Miss.
"I'm really excited about this week," Mullen said. "It's my first opportunity to be involved in the big Egg Bowl game and the great rivalry that it is in the state of Mississippi. I'm just really looking forward to it. I know our kids are fired up and I will probably learn about the rivalry from some of our kids that have played in it in the past."
During his 11 months in Mississippi, Mullen has been able to see how much Saturday's game will impact the lives of its residents in terms of bragging rights for a full year.
"I'd compare it to when I was at Utah for the Utah-BYU rivalry which is probably the biggest (rivalry) I've ever been involved in," Mullen said. "There is so much state pride that lasts a long time for one game. I think that's what makes it huge. Just being here and seeing our fans commitment to us and knowing their fans and that there is not a lot of love lost between both school on the field and off the field and in the communities. When you are in that type of game that's what really makes it special."
For MSU to have a chance to avenge their 45-0 loss to the Rebels last season, Mullen understands they will have to find a way to contain Dexter McCluster. The Rebels all-everything player has accounted for 1,342 yards of offense and 14 touchdowns this season.
