Richt rules on starting QB
In an effort to quell any speculation, Georgia coach Mark Richt issued a statement through the school sports information office that Joe Cox will remain the Bulldogs' starting quarterback.
"It was unanimous among our staff that Joe gives us the best chance to win and that's where our focus needs t be," Richt said. "There's still a lot of football left this season. We tell our players to finish the drill and we are committed to doing that this weekend. We have faith in Joe that he gives us the best opportunity to do that. At the same time, we do plan on Logan Gray getting some playing time his week at quarterback."
The Bulldogs (4-4) hosts Tennessee Tech Saturday at 1 p.m.
Last week Cox completed 11 of 20 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times in Saturday's 41-17 loss to Florida. Cox, who has been picked off in all eight of Georgia's games, now has 12 interceptions this year.
That wasn't the only news.
Richt confirmed that wide receiver A.J. Green suffered a pulmonary contusion and will not play this weekend.
Meanwhile, offensive tackle Clint Boling had a knee contusion and is probable while defensive end Justin Houston is listed as doubtful after hyper-extending his elbow.
